Dear Members,
Since the late 1960s, the IASOWA has been a source of comfort and camaraderie for us wives who are the backbone to the men who make up the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Civil Service. Our husbands play important roles in the governance of our great country, and so do we. In supporting them, we allow them to do their best, to make harder choices like moving to new cities, or rebuilding our families’ life in new locations with each transfer. We, the officers and the wives come from different parts of the country. IASOWA represents the family that brings us all together.
I have had the privilege of being the President of the IASOWA since September 2024. In that time, I have been fortunate to be assisted by an enthusiastic and able team of office bearers who have repeatedly given their all in an effort to make each event special for all of you. Besides being a society that supports us wives, it has also been the effort of the IASOWA to help the community we live in, and particularly to work for the benefit of those less fortunate than us.
In that light, I would like to highlight some of the major initiatives we have undertaken. We run Prerna (an NGO for the underprivileged) where we train young women to develop employable skills through the Prerna Design Centre. Our Prerna Design Centre is made in collaboration with leading industry specialists, which enables these bright girls to not merely learn new skills, but to put them to remunerative use. Each of these girls is assured of placements in some leading textile and garment brands such as GAP. It seeks to make them employable, disciplined, and independent.
Helen Keller said, 'Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much'. As we begin a new year of the IASOWA, I invite you all to continue gracing us with your smiles, kind presence and immeasurable support.
President IASOWA
